A Day in this lifestyle

The St. Lazare "Lifestyle" is certainly a strong reason why so many of us now live here.

For some, it's about great schools, services, nice homes and neighborhoods.

Others came here decades ago for a different lifestyle that Montreal or other cities couldn't provide. A small town surrounded by virgin forests and bogs.

More importantly, the families born on this land who for generations have stayed and decided to continue to be an important foundation of our community.

Times are changing but I was reminded today of what I love most about my hometown...

It's a normal Thursday morning late March.  We're under a Warning of possible Winter Storm.  Nothing new there.  My son Jesse and I had an appointment for blood tests with the private nurse at Brunet Pharmacy on Ste. Angelique.

For us, it wasn't about being so busy that we didn't have time to go to the CLSC or Hospital.  Yes, it is very convenient for anyone who has the means or a great health insurance plan.

Jesses' handicaps make even a regular blood test stressful.  It isn't easy for him, the nurse, or my hubby and I.  For a small young man he certainly has nervous strength.  Be it a dental appointment or a vaccine, he will put up a fight and rightfully so considering his reality.

We seriously didn't think it would be a successful appointment but we keep trying to avoid sedation or anesthesia.  We monitor much of his health by simply noting how happy he is, how well he's eating, sleeping, etc... But I digress.

While waiting all of 3 minutes, I met a lady(I wish I had asked her name). She was waiting too and in a short time, I iknew a lot about her.

She was a very kind person.  We spoke as good neighbors sharing life realities.  There was sympathy, empathy, and there was a smile/look of encouragement between us.  That short moment where 'strangers' meet and relate on a human untainted level.  I may never see her again in this small town that keeps growing.

Just a normal every day experience that touched us.  That reminded me what humanity and community was all about.  I know for sure how lucky I am to live here.  If I should go on at any point about anything I don't like, it will be due to the passion I have had for this place for the past 26 years.

Welcome to St. Lazare!
